Suvarnaprashan in Ahmedabad — Ayurvedic Gold Drops for Children
Quick answer: Suvarnaprashan (Swarna Prashan) is a traditional Ayurvedic preparation of purified gold (Swarna Bhasma) with honey, ghee and herbs, given as drops to children from birth to 16 years, usually once a month on Pushya Nakshatra. At Advait Ayurveda, Gota, Ahmedabad, Dr. Kalpit N. Goswami gives it after a child check-up. Next Pushya: 1 November 2026, then 28–29 Nov and 25–26 Dec 2026. See the Pushya Nakshatra 2026 dates or the 2027 dates.
What is Suvarnaprashan?
Suvarna means gold and Prashana means to feed. It is one of the sixteen Ayurvedic child-care sanskaras described in the Kashyapa Samhita. The drops combine Swarna Bhasma, a purified and processed form of gold, with honey, cow ghee and herbs traditionally used for children. Different pharmacies vary in formula, so we use only labelled, quality-checked preparations.
Traditional benefits of Suvarnaprashan
In Ayurveda it is used to support:
- immunity — often chosen by parents of children with frequent coughs and colds
- memory, concentration and learning
- appetite and digestion
- growth, strength and sleep
These are traditional uses. Large modern trials are limited, so please see it as supportive care alongside nutrition, sleep, vaccination and regular check-ups — not as a treatment for any disease.
Age: from when can a child take it?
Ancient texts say from birth to 16 years. In practice, we examine your child first — age, weight, current illness, allergies — and the doctor then decides the form and number of drops. Children with fever, an active infection or a known honey or ghee allergy may need to wait.
When is it given? Pushya Nakshatra
Suvarnaprashan is given once a month on the day the Moon is in Pushya Nakshatra, usually in the morning on an empty stomach. Pushya returns about every 27 days, roughly 13–14 times a year. Guru Pushya (Thursday) and Ravi Pushya (Sunday) are considered extra auspicious. Full table with timings for Ahmedabad: Pushya Nakshatra 2026 dates and 2027 dates.
Upcoming: Sun 1 Nov 2026 (Ravi Pushya) · 28–29 Nov 2026 · 25–26 Dec 2026 · 22–23 Jan 2027 · 18–19 Feb 2027.

Suvarnaprashan FAQs
What is Suvarnaprashan?
Suvarnaprashan (Suvarna Prashana, Swarna Prashan) is a classical Ayurvedic preparation for children made from Swarna Bhasma (purified gold), honey, ghee and herbs, given as a few drops. It is described in the Kashyapa Samhita as a supportive tonic for children.
At what age can a child start Suvarnaprashan?
Ayurvedic texts describe it from birth up to 16 years. The doctor decides after examining your child, and decides the form for young infants.
Does Suvarnaprashan increase immunity?
Ayurveda traditionally uses it to support immunity, memory and digestion in children. Large modern clinical trials are limited, so we describe it as a traditional supportive practice — it does not replace vaccination or treatment for illness.
Is Suvarnaprashan safe for children?
Properly prepared, labelled drops given by a qualified Ayurvedic doctor are generally well tolerated. Avoid unlabelled or unlicensed drops, and tell the doctor about allergies, fever, or regular medicines. Honey-based drops are not given to babies under 12 months unless the doctor advises.
When should Suvarnaprashan be given?
Traditionally on Pushya Nakshatra, once a month, in the morning on an empty stomach. See the Pushya Nakshatra 2026 dates and 2027 dates.
How long should a child continue Suvarnaprashan?
Many families continue every Pushya for 6 months to several years. The doctor will review your child's response and advise.
