Why acidity happens

Long gaps between meals, late dinners, tea or coffee on an empty stomach, spicy and fried food, stress, poor sleep and some painkillers all increase acid. In Ayurveda this is Amlapitta: aggravated Pitta with weak digestion.

Our treatment plan

  • Meal timing: regular meals, an early light dinner, and no lying down right after eating
  • Diet: less chilli, sour, fried and fermented food and tea; more cooling, easily digested food
  • Ayurvedic medicines: to calm Pitta and heal the stomach lining
  • Routine: sleep, stress control and gentle exercise
  • Virechana for long-standing, recurrent cases when suitable

When to see a doctor urgently

Chest pain with sweating or breathlessness can be a heart problem: go to a hospital immediately. Also seek urgent care for vomiting blood, black stools, difficulty swallowing or unexplained weight loss.
