What is Pushya Nakshatra and why is Suvarnaprashan given on it?

Pushya is the 8th of the 27 nakshatras (lunar stars). Classical Ayurvedic texts, including the Kashyapa Samhita, describe giving Suvarna Prashana — honey, ghee and herbs prepared with Swarna Bhasma (purified gold) — to children, and tradition links it with Pushya because Pushya means "nourishing". This is a traditional belief; it is not a vaccine and not a substitute for medical care or your child's immunisation schedule.

Dates are computed from the Moon's sidereal position (Lahiri ayanamsa) using the Swiss Ephemeris, for Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in Indian Standard Time. Pushya runs while the Moon is between 93°20′ and 106°40′. Local panchangs can differ by a few minutes.
